Yes, the city must ensure that business activity and site location are compatible with the city’s municipal code and zoning requirements. Businesses operating at a residential (home based) location or at a commercial location in the city require review and approval from the Planning Department.
Business Licenses
The City of Pacific Grove Municipal Code requires that you obtain a license when you conduct any business activity within the city, even if your business is located outside of the city limits or if you have a business license from another city. Businesses that are based in the city must also have a business license. This includes home based businesses, building contractors, independent contractors, and non-profit businesses. You can apply for a Pacific Grove business license here.
There are two steps to apply for a business license in the city. (Visit https://pacificgrove.hdlgov.com to apply now.)
The first step is the zoning clearance form – click the highlighted link under Step 1 to complete the application and pay the associated fee here. Once your application has been approved by city staff, they will contact you and HdL. At that time, you may move to Step 2 to submit your business license application to HdL.
